OK so it’s not Saturday. Well, maybe it’s Saturday somewhere. Now that I think about it there are planets which rotate so slowly that a day for them is like a thousand years for us (Isn’t there a Scriptural connection here?) so in fact today is Saturday somewhere (Let’s say it’s on Saturn since that is the origin of the English word “Saturday”). Have I lost you yet? I am at the moment sitting at our kitchen table in a small duplex in Mozambique. But instead of duplex, we call the place the “halfway house” since construction on the place seems to be about halfway completed. Nonetheless we are comfortably ensconced in a halfway sort of way after returning from a long weekend in the Swiss alps of Mozambique. Where’s that? Well my report will wait for another day but we had a fantastic time with clear air, cool weather and an Edenic bounty of fruit (not excluding the forbidden fruit, I suppose). A night of rain set me to thinking of termites. Last night they chose to come out in their millions from their subterranean homes where they have been groomed from youth for future kingness and queenness. They fly at the first good rain fall, they soar as far as possible and then they hit the ground, their wings fall off and they begin looking for a mate to start another colony. Ah, how like the human condition: we soar for but an instant and then like Icarus we plunge back to earth and return to the earth.
Well, surf’s up! The beach on this Saturn’s day is the Christian Blog Carnival. I am a regular contributor but I admit to my shame that it is hard for me to visit every contribution by others. Surely folks there ought to be some way to RSS this thing!!! This carnival is about fruit and on the whole I’d say there wasn’t a rotten piece in the bunch. But some are truly delicious and I want to bring those to your attention.
The Lingamish shortlist of the best of the best of this week’s Christian Carnival:
- “The Next Abolition Movement: Abolishing Slavery in the 21st Century”
- “I’m thankful for the electromagnetic spectrum”
- “Hugh Hewitt and the Mormon Question”
- “The Limits to God’s Grace”
- “New Testiment: Extended Edition”
- “Friday Night Theological Library Smackdown”
I tried to read everyone’s contribution and comment if possible which wasn’t always easy but the posts above are ones I definitely enjoyed and several of them have provoked me to want to post on similar topics. But first, termites! Aren’t you curious about termites? In Africa they build gigantic clay palaces. The queen can live to be 30 years old and lays an average of one egg per minute. Termites work twice as fast while listening to heavy metal music. They are more nutritious than beef and produce more methane than cows. They weigh more than humans… these and many more tasty tidbits as well as the ever-important spiritual application, next week at Lingamish.

thank you for stopping by my blog. Even if I didn’t make your short-list, I’m glad that an accomplished writer like yourself thought that I had good things to say. So thanks!
Annette, just for that I’m adding you to the list! Just goes to show you that flattery will get you… somewhere…
