I had to look up in the dictionary the definition of hermeneutics and it was defined as interpretation and stydy of a subject which was similar to what I was thinking.
I usually read the Scriptures and take them at face value, without any deep interpretation. Using a contemporary version , I hope I am getting the meaning right. Just read James 1:27 in the Good news translation and it states” What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.” WOW! Simple instructions, but very cmplex. I make an effort to stay uncorrupted on a daily basis, but don’t often think of orphans and widows. We, here in the USA have left that mostly to the government. I think I am going to have to change the emphasis of my
Christian life. The more I study, the more I need to change.

I’ve wondered about that verse myself. Why in particular did he choose to mention orphans and widows? The book of James seldom gives you any contextual clues. But being a very practical book it’s possible that we should apply the verse literally.

Hi! Good to have found your blog (through some linking here and there). This is the 2nd time I have come across a mention of being “against” hermeneutics!
I always thought it a cool word =D

Anyway, I got here through your old blog at blogspot. Wordpress is better, eh? I did create one here weeks ago — maybe I should take a closer look.

Hermeneutics: Another translation of John 1:27 uses “homeless” rather than widows and orphans. I can relate to that more, as homeless would include widows and orphans. The mentally ill have become a real concern as the “government has chosen to ignore them and put them out on the street rather than try to house, care and train. It is a sad situation, where we, the Church, need to take resposibility.
