Startling news this morning as it has been reported to me by a reliable source that there has been a fresh smenita outbreak at Blogger. Many of you may not realize that one of my many responsibilities as a cyber-citizen is maintaining the centre for smenitalogical studies at Blogger.com. The first recorded instance of smenita was in December 2005. For those of you who are unaware of what smenita is and the kinds of trauma it causes I encourage you to visit the centre. A picture of smenita is available in this post: Smenita debuts in fiction.
I’d be happy if someone could search Blogger’s recent posts and see if there are any other blogs mentioning this most recent outbreak. If you find any, leave a comment at the smenita site. My connection to the internet here in Africa makes such research impractical.

I saw smenita on another blog this morning, and wondered how long it would be before you mentioned it. Have you ever thought that you have too much time on your hands?
Eddie, are you referring to my post about Smenita? Yes, I probably do have too much time on my hands, but if I choose to spend my evenings blogging about such things, isn’t that better than watching garbage on TV? But it’s working hours now, so I had better get back to my translation work!
Nope, wasn’t referring to you Peter. I put a comment on another blog and Smenita came out as the antispam phrase. I caught up with Speaker of Truth after reading Lingamish and realised the phenomenon was expanding!
Why does everyone think I have too much time on my hands? Goofing around is the handmaiden of inspiration. By the way, more than 114 people have posted on the smenita problem since it started just over a year ago.
Well there are already more than 1290 articles about smenita (http://www.google.nl/search?num=100&hl=nl&newwindow=1&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=OmN&q=smenita&btnG=Zoeken&meta=)
I had a bad smenita rash at one time, but I found a cream that cleared it all up.
[...] Smenita is back yet again! I thought we had seen the last of her, with the completely new Blogger software package. But it was not to be, she has struck again tonight. At least she is not cruelly eating comments as she did last year, but being benign as she was in January: Smenita doesn’t seem to be the problem she used to be. In the past when I typed in her name Blogger didn’t recognise it, and gave it to me again for word verification. Now Blogger does recognise “smenita” and accept the comment, and repeats the same word verification. [...]
I kinda missed her.
