Dinthi Day 15
Categories: Culture

Ever since my first visit to Dinthi in 2001, this couple has always been my hosts.  Theni (pronounce “Tennie”) is the secretary of Dinthi, Zona Verde which is the “Green Zone” or valley where we live.  This area is mostly agricultural with people living right next to their machambas where they grow corn, peanuts, pumpkins, beans, and other vegetables.

We always pass their house when driving to our house and we make sure to stop and say hello and see how things are going.

Monday I stopped by to chat with Theni.  I was reminded again that he is an excellent reader.  That’s unusual for someone in his age group.  He told me that when he was a kid the schools were all very far away.  He didn’t learn to read until he went to Zimbabwe to find work as a young man.

Great pictures, David. Looks like you are having a great spring. Yesterday was beautiful here in Oregon, with all the kids racing around outside. Looks like rain for the next few days. Give my regards to The Secretary and his wife. We enjoyed visiting with him and seeing his forge, and family.
