We’re back in Dinthi village for another couple weeks before we transfer up to Ulongwe. This morning I went to get some things out of our hut and I was amazed at what great condition it is in six years after being built.  The roof is still the original thatch and the walls are original mud with a layer of cement.  The only thing that was damaged was the window and door frames which have been attacked by termites.  These would be easy to fix.

Other nice things about this hut:

  • Brick latrine and bath house.
  • Only 200 meters from the creek.
  • 500 meters to the primary school.
  • Next door to the village secretary.
  • Cell phone coverage.
  • Hospital, airport and supermarket in Songo about 30 minutes away.

Dinthi is a very attractive place to live:

  • Several unstudied languages in the area (Nyungwe, Dema, Phimbi, Tawara).
  • A wide-open mission field. The only houses of worship are a Catholic mission and Jehovah’s Witness chapel.

So how about it? I’m willing to rent our hut to a qualified applicant.

Wow, that brings back great memories. I know there are termites, because we could hear them chomping away all night as we tried to sleep in that hut under the mosquito nets.
You will probably have families standing in line to rent this hut as it is bigger than most other houses in the village.

Anything definite on who will use the brick house after you move? It would be great if it could be used as a church or outreach location for evangelization in the area.

You continue to amaze me as you can go to all the work to build something like the house and then not become possessive of it. That’s just not the American way!!
