Michael has added Lingamish to his blogroll at Kruse Kronicle. Thanks, Michael. Also, Brass Tacky.
I’m really excited about a new discovery: Pure Christianity. Johnny and Kate are navigating the dangerous waters of reentry into the US after 2 1/5 years in Kenya without air conditioning. Sounds like they’re heading back to Africa soon. I look forward to reading through their archives of blog posts going back more than a year. Four cute kids, too.
Eclexia is doing a series of Prayer for the world posts. The first one is here: Prayer for the World–The U.S. and Food. I’ve got two other people lined up to do posts in the future. Interested? Here’s some more info: About Prayer for the world – Other Prayer for the world posts.
My Internet connection continues to be shaky. Despite the Mozambican telecom promising broadband before the end of last month I continue to beg and steal access in ever increasingly sneaky ways. At the moment I’m borrowing a dial-up account from someone and using a phone line from someone else. The nifty but slow dial-up that I had through my cell phone has been down for close to a week. It was nifty because it was kind of like wireless in that I could connect any time I had cell phone contact. It was slow because I had to connect at glacially slow rates and reconnect up to ten times just to succeed in getting all my email.
Snickerdoodles? My favorite cookie. Over the weekend my wife made me a batch of these delicacies. The house was filled with the smell of “home.” Our house-moving ordeal is nearly over. There are a few stray boxes around the house and I somehow misplaced my comb. But this feels like “when the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed.” Ulongwe is like a miniature Oregon, tucked on the side of Tete province. The cool weather and lush surroundings are a relief after almost ten years in the desert of Tete. And best of all I still get to keep my fingers in Nyungwe work. Last week I printed the first draft of the Dictionary of the Languages of Tete together with the editor, Mr. Mafigo. And all day I was consulting by phone with Pastor Semo who is having computer trouble in Tete.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

I noticed in the sidebar that “lingalinga is about… Angonia”. But what is “Angonia”? This is the only post with that tag, and the only mention is in the tag!
Ah well, there is some explanation here. I guess it is the district where Ulongwe is. Do I spot variants of the same morpheme in A-ngoni-a, Nyungwe, U-longwe and Li-longwe?
Not related to Nyungwe but all the others are connected… to the runaway Zulus who scattered through Southern and Eastern Africa. Ngoni people groups are now located in two places in Mozambique.
