- 10 years ago I was an overwhelmed father of three toddlers unsuccessfully learning the Portuguese language in Lisbon.
- 20 years ago I was picking through the wreckage of a failed freshman year at Tulane University studying Electrical Engineering.
I wrote this poem when I left:
My Engineering Poem
Day and night math fills my brain.
Pretty soon I’ll go insane.
Watching clouds of chalkboard dust,
The hinges of my spirit rust.
Now the world has naught to fear,
I’ll never be an engineer.
I’ll leave that job to you with glee,
And pursue a liberal arts degree.
- 30 years ago I was nine years old. How I wish it was 1977.
I tag: Nick Norelli, Mark Olson, and Phil Smoke.
P.S. 10 years from now I hope to still have all my hair. 20 years from now I hope to still have all my teeth. And 30 years from now I hope to still have all my marbles.

Did that happen before or after you became an English major?
I actually was an engineer for a few years. I guess it was that that sent me insane. But I guess you just didn’t have “the knack”.
Being crazy is the only thing that keeps me sane.

I don’t have this trackback thing figured out yet. Or maybe Blogger stinks at it? At any rate, I’ve passed on the meme.
20 years I ago I was considering trucking school because of engineering.
30 years ago, I was nine.
Are we living in parallel universes?
Coincidence? I don’t think so.
