Cyber-Psalm 12

While all my friends in the northern hemisphere are complaining about the cold weather, here in Mozambique summer is hitting us full blast and that means hot weather, dust, bugs, malaria and general sticky discomfort. It’s also a hungry time of the year as food is not in ready supply and even people like ourselves who are comparatively rich beyond belief have a hard time finding fruit and vegetables.

This Cyber-Psalm was half-written and then I had to run an errand in the dark and stubbed my toe on a big rock and ended up home again with a sandal full of blood.

Some days I am hungry for heaven and ready to fly!

The voice of the psalm reminded me of Gwendolyn Brooks.

  1. Peter Kirk says:

Cyber-Psalm 12 seems to have gone the way of all cyberspace, to a place known as “a 404 page”. Perhaps it was so hungry for heaven it has flown already.

  2. lingamish says:

Sorry about that. I meant to have this post come out after the Cyber-Psalm. Everything should be showing up fine now.

  3. Beyond Words says:

Love the psalm but must confess I find the flying imagery very ironic…yesterday I had a conversation with a friend and we concluded we couldn’t sing the song, “I’ll Fly Away” in good faith anymore because we don’t believe in a Rapture or heaven as a disembodied state. She said she improvises with, “I’ll bake a pie, O glory, I’ll bake a pie…”

This is a theological puzzle. What happened when Jesus ascended? Did he just lose the body and take off spiritually? What about Paul’s very detailed description in 1 Thess? I agree with you about it not being a “disembodied state.” In fact, Paul describes this world as “light and momentary” in comparison to the “weighty glory” that will be revealed.

This Cyber-Psalm did have me singing “I’ll fly away.”

  5. eclexia says:

“Right now I’m stuck…but my soul praises God and I am free.” I am facing a situation that has escalated this week, which seems so entangled and complicated. Every option appears to make things worse. There is no shortage of opinions on what I need to do. And also no shortage of musing on what I (or others involved) could have done wrong to “create” this situation. I truly feel stuck…but my soul praises God and I am free. Thank you for this word picture and the encouragement it gives me as I walk through this weekend.

I wish I could send you to the beach and let you walk in the sand and stare at the waves. That always helps me. Doesn’t provide any answers necessarily but gives you a big picture on existence.

We’ve been thinking about you. I liked the Luther post. He was gross and funny and flawed and brave.
