Too busy dancing with hippos. Plus your blogger system is impossible for me to comment on.
Very amusing. Your new header inspired me to make another hippo image:

If you can email me a 200K or less version I’ll put it up on the gallery. My connection is even worse than bad right now…
wow… thats cool nathan.
Sigh. I’m jealous, Nathan, of whatever photo program you are using…
How DID you do that? Or is it a trade secret? In any case, it got a “wow” not just from me, but from my five year old who loves to see all the latest in Lingapotami.
hmm I loved it too and I saw photos today of an illegally jailed opposition lawyer in Zimbabwe the photos shoed his behind the fence.

It’s plain ol’ Photoshop. I taught myself last summer and I mostly just mess around with it when I get inspired or am touching up photos of my family. I’ll shoot you some smaller files via email David.
Nathan, “Plain ol’ Photoshop” like the several hundred dollar version of plain ol’? Or am I missing out on something cheaper that is available?
Last year, I did a 30 day free trial of Corel’s photo program and loved it, but it, also, was way out of my price range. I’d be happy to hear if there is an affordable photo program that can do some things beyond the basics that come with free download programs.
Photoshop CS2 to be exact. There is a cheaper retail version called Photoshop Elements that isn’t quite as powerful, but I’ve never used it. There are some good free programs you can try out; here is a great page on wiki listing most of them:

I’ve used IrfanView and Paint.NET; both are pretty nice.
How DID you do that?
Sorry I forgot to answer your question. I started with a base image of the cage. I shrunk my hippo image down to a size that would fit in the cage. Then I layered the hippo over the cage, and layered a duplicate of the cage image over that. So when I got started I had two duplicate images of the cage with the hippo layered in between. Other than that, the only tool I used was the eraser. I erased the areas between the bars on the top image, revealing the hippo underneath. Took 30 or 60 minutes, I didn’t really pay close attention.
