Update: TallSkinnyKiwi posted more results and a commenter posted a long list of bloggers and their dude/chick quotient.
Update 2: All my other blogs are written by a man. So I think the male/female thing is just done by counting words. Women talk more so if your blog has a lot of words on it you’re a female. Simple!
Now the truth comes out. Not only are many of the leading dude bloggers really chicks but I am a chick blogger too.
After all, statistics do not lie:
This classifier tries to figure out if a text is written by a man or woman. It has been trained on 4000 English blogs written by males and females.
Here are the results for Lingamish (HT: Karita)
I would really appreciate it if you would go inform these people that I am a guy. My wife thinks I’m a guy. My four children think I’m a guy. I never blog about cats. I’m a guy, OK?!?
Alternatively, you can maybe explain why they think I blog like a girlie-girl. I mean, really. They surveyed 4,000 blogs that’s scientific right?
I’ve already done the test for some of the most notable chauvinists and feminists that I follow. See if you can guess the results for these bloggers:
And a special bonus. Andrew Jones, who commented on my blog for the first time ever today (I have arrived!).
No peeking…
The
answers
are
here:
- written by a man (57%), however it’s quite gender neutral.
- written by a woman (60%).
- written by a man (50%), however it’s quite gender neutral.
- An error occurred. Problems downloading
- written by a man (87%)
And the Tall Skinny Kiwi: written by a man (51%), however it’s quite gender neutral.
Any explanations for these results?
Take the test for your blog and let me know the results in the comments.
P.S. For those of you interested in corpus linguistics and wordles, the API is available to create your own test like this.

tilling causing an error makes perfect sense!
i need to comment again, as in, the second time
firstly . . . oh my gosh – you’re a GUY???? who knew???
secondly, 51% for tallskinnykiwi is pretty good. I did resurgence on their test and it got 83%
It says I’m 90% guy. It doesn’t say what the other 10% is.
I had always wondered about Kurk Gayle, especially after the Cyber-Psalm recording. But no doubt about me: 82% male.
If the bible were a blog, then what would the GENDERANALYZER call her? Only 4000 and all English blogs? That “classifier” needs 97% more Portuguese (Πορτογαλικά) and Greek (Grego) learning.
I SO love that I am gender neutral – it probably just means that I am bland or transexual!
AskChaka is 62% female. Hmmm . . . well, I did grow up with 3 sisters.
We think http://powerscourt.blogspot.com is written by a man (68%).
I am hardly fit for conversation at the moment. ;-(
You and me both, gal.
Dave,
Were we switched at birth?
I’m your long lost twin and we are both perfectly balanced human beans.
David-wrt your update, I don’t think it’s more words. I’m probably the wordiest of the lot of you, and it gave me 90% man.
So look for another explanation, OK?
I believe that it only reads the home page for the URL. I have got different results with tags, archives, etc. But, alas, always a female.

What is the feminine name for hippopotamus?
A female hippopotamus is called a cow. The male hippopotamus is called a bull. A group of hippopotamus is called either a crash or herd.
