Update: The Lingy Screen Mate now stays on top of all the windows and has cool functions like eating flowers, teleporting and following the mouse.
- A new screen mate
- A winner of the hippo joke contest
- A cyber-psalm reader
This morning I received the first lingapotamus screen mate entry. It is so fabulous to have the little guy walking all over my screen. Thanks, Josiah!!!

I have selected Scott Gray as the winner of this year’s annual Lingapotamus Hippo Joke Laughathon.
And one of my favorite hippo artists, Mary at Catching Beauty has designed two cartoons for this contest based on the jokes.
Scott can take his choice of which of these pictures he’d like and he’ll receive the original artwork by mail.
Congrats, Scott! You are really funny.
Finally, I neglected to mention that the mysterious Lord Peter Kirk has done a recording of Cyber-Psalm 33. Read his comments about the experience here. You can listen to it here: Cyber-Psalm 33
Peter has one of those great English accents that makes you think he’s really smart and sophisticated. His is the accent that is often used by villains in American movies. I have long suspected that Peter is not a villain but rather a member of the British aristocracy who solves mysteries while driving around in his Bentley. He refuses to reveal the truth but as you can see from the photo this is obviously a really nice guy. So I don’t think he’s a villain. He might be. Nah, probably not.
If you have been wanting to record a Cyber-Psalm then this is the week to do it. I have good Internet access and can deal with recordings that you make. Check here for how to do it.
In fact, I really want to record my Facebook makes you dumb song but I don’t have a guitar. (The song is sort of like Roly-Poly Fishheads but with a punk beat and lots of screaming and whispering.)

Why don’t you tell us Scott’s jokes? Don’t leave us hanging, man–we’d like to laugh out loud, too!

Yes, you’re right, David, I’m not a villain but I am a descendant of aristocrats and even of kings, with a family tree to prove it. Actually I have two Bentleys. The big powerful one with a real kick in its engine is called Todd, but it’s off the road at the moment for restoration. I just sold an unreliable older one called Shonnah and bought a sexy little open-top model called Jessa.
[...] By the way, don’t treat too seriously this comment I made on the Lingamish blog. [...]
You are very bad. Definitely a villain.
david–
sorry, i’ve been out of the loop for a while.
mary’s pictures are absolutely divine– i think she wins the whole contest hands down, at least for charm and creativity.
her pictures made me do what you want any thing clever to do… laugh out loud.
what a gleeful day this has become.
peace–
scott
Make your pick and then I’ll contact you privately for mailing instructions. Mary is really awesome. Did you see the spaghetti ostrich on her blog. That gal is a Picasso in training.
d–
the bar scene, please.
scott
do you need my email?
Nope. You’re getting the real live piece of art in an envelope. So I’ll need a mailing address. If you’re not comfortable with that we can leave it at a drop off point in a park. I’ll email you to find out your preference.
Scott,
You can have both original drawings, if you want. I had a great time drawing them. Thanks for the compliments.
Mary
No way, I want the Hippy! Please?!? That’s a classic.
