“Coded references to biblical passages are inscribed on gunsights widely used by the US and British military in Iraq and Afghanistan, it has emerged.”

A friend suggested MT10:34, “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”

I considered JN 16:2b, “… a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God.

Your suggestions in the comments, please.

  1. Joel says:

    Matthew 26.52?

    Matthew 5.39?

    Matthew 5.9?

    Matthew 5.23-24?

Of course, I am sure I am reading those wrong and they should all point to using Scriptures for warmongering. Must be my postmodernist hermeneutics.

  2. Sam Norton says:

Surely Ps144.1: Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

  3. MT26:52 (He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword). As Joel comments.

  4. Stuart says:

    How about 2 Samuel 22:43:-

Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

  5. Chaka says:

“I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin on the mountainside.”

    Wait, that’s Gandalf.

  6. Stuart says:

LOL classic that made me really laugh Chaka….

  7. Oliver says:

A friend of mine suggested Isa 2:4 – to which my reply has been:

As the inverse of Isa 2:4, they could use Joel 3:10 (or 4:10 depending on the chapter divisions in your Bible). How sad that, whatever your persuasion, you can find a Bible verse promoting your cause (provided you take it out of context). :S

  8. David says:

    2Ki7:8

“Then they came back, went into another tent and rifled it, and made off and hid the loot.”

  9. Oliver says:

Ps 10:15 “Break the arms of these evil, wicked people!” (NLT)
Ps 64:7 “God himself will shoot them down.” (NLT)

Hmmm … maybe you shouldn’t allow pacifists to comment on this post ;-)

It’s not an original or new idea, apparently. I found this (link)while reading a photo blog today about gold:

Scroll down to almost the bottom, and read under “Biblical Inscription”.

    Ezekiel 25:17

The most epic Bible quote in a movie ever. A cookie to whomever can name the movie first.
