How appropriate that the taxi driver was jamming to Dire Straits while driving me through Nampula. This footage is ascending the FPLM road toward the SIL center.
I could make up a whole songlist for lonely guys like me on the road:
- I’m a long long way from home
BethHilary, I hear you calling- I was born a rambling man
- Find your way back
- Please come to Boston…
Shoot, this is depressing. Well, thanks to the marvels of technology I got to Skype with my kids for half an hour. We really like smileys.
Only one more week to go and I’m back home surrounded by the kids and loving wife and faithful dog and favorite coffee cup and… decent weather!

Boy, do I love that song! From one of my all-time favorite albums!
“Mean old town” perfectly describes Nampula.
Great Skyping with you and Hilary yesterday. We are still trying to put the trip to see you together. “Have patience, have patience, don’t be in a hurry.” That’s my new mantra! Had a nice lunch with Bob yesterday, and visited with Faye too in their beautiful home.
Africa is Africa. Nampula looks just like some parts of Nairobi.
Love the juxtaposition of the song and the surroundings.
And David, how come you never comment on my blog?
I love your blog. But I’ve drastically cut back on my feed reader. Anywho, I’m heading over there to SPAM you!
