For my wife’s birthday, or maybe it was Valentine’s Day, I made this weird little book for her about troll & fairy and how they fall in love. And I have kept doodling trolls and fairies since then so I thought I would torment the world at large as well.

I thought I would use it as a way to stop thinking about my thesis which at the moment is driving me insane and not letting me sleep. So maybe some right brain doodling will help me relax.

Technically speaking these comics are multimodal ensembles and really linguistically interesting. I’ve never thought about comics before and how much the text and picture depend on each other. When you add color… WOW! it makes a big difference. The semiotics of color is quite a bit more important than boring old linguists give it credit for. For example, consider this colorful sight:
