This is the beach house where we stayed in 2004. It is about one mile from the beach and doesn’t have a view of the sea. But it has a nice lagoon behind that the kids enjoyed exploring. The house seems to have deteriorated in three years.

The Promised Land

On our way to Kleinmond beach we saw this rainbow hovering over the city like a sign from God. Quite a contrast from the blackened hillside of Betty’s Bay that had been hit by wildfires.

Betty's Bay fire

The wildfire that burned last week ignited again leaving the highway closed and resident’s fearing for their homes. In nearby Hermanus, three houses were destroyed by fires. This scene is about one mile from where we are staying. That evening, the rain started and put out the fire. However, people told us that they fear the fire is still burning underground in the dense vegetation of the fynbos.

What a wind

The wind was blowing so hard that we had to hold hands on the trail up to the view point. Ellie got knocked down once by the wind. Mom and Dad were having paranoid visions of kids blown into the abyss by incredible gusts of wind. On the way up the hill my mouth was blowing up like when you are on a carnival ride. Fun!

Yesterday we spent a lazy afternoon in the sun at The Boulders. Today at the Cape of Good Hope the wind was blowing us away. All the Ker kids are visible in this photo although you can only see Benny’s feet!

Passing penguin

The Boulders is an amazing beach south of Simon’s Town where you can hang out with flippered friends in a secluded setting. The penguins stay mostly hidden except for an occasional dash between the boulders or a dip in the water.

In this picture Ellie and Grammy are in the foreground but Henry and Benjamin are also visible in the background.
